My experience using ICT tools in school and its effectiveness
How I used and benefited from ICT tools at school
Introduction
One of my latest school assignments required me to create, plan, and design a final report for this project. The task was successfully completed with the use of several Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools which helped me finish the assignment faster, with more precision and more neatly. The following programs I used in this assignment were: AutoCAD, Google Docs, and Microsoft Word.
Designing with AutoCAD
This task required me to first create a technical drawing, so I had to use AutoCAD, which is a software for technical designs and drawing.
What I Did
Using AutoCAD I could measure the dimensions, and draw the specific shape and positioning required for my assignment. Using this software allowed me to obtain an accurate drawing where everything was at the right place and the dimensions were exact.
What I Used
- Layers for all of my drawing components
- Object Snap for precision on each point that was being drawn.
- Drawing and editing tools to make a tidy final design.
Result
My final design was neat; it was precise and professionally created and it could be used for the next part of my assignment.
Planning with Google Docs
I also used Google Docs to collect data, make notes and prepare myself for the report.
What I Did
Using Google Docs I was able to access my document form every location that I had internet access. The document was automatically saved on the cloud so I was able to work from my pc or laptop.
What I Used
- Comment feature for receiving instructions from teacher.
- Suggestion feature so I could correct parts of my assignment.
- Version History in order to save previous drafts.
Result
My prepared draft was very tidy and easy to modify.
Formatting the Final Report with Microsoft Word
Once I had collected all of the data and had drawn the diagram, I had to put all of it together to make a report, so I used Microsoft Word for this part of my assignment.
What I Did
I transferred all of the documents together into one file and I was able to format it so it would look very tidy and professional.
What I Used
- Styles for my titles, subtitles and normal text for consistency.
- Automatic table of content.
- Image insertion for adding the AutoCAD drawing to my report.
Result
My final report was neatly formatted and professionally created.
Conclusion
Using AutoCAD, Google Docs and Microsoft Word at school was very useful for me for this assignment. This allowed me to do the most accurate drawing of my design as well as a very tidy report which was easy to update with my teachers' comments.
